Checkout Real Madrid Manager, Zidane’s Remark Following La Liga Victory

Zinedine Zidane stunned journalists in Malaga when he declared  winning LaLiga is more important than winning the UEFA Champions League. As the coach of Madrid, since he replaced Rafa Benitez, he had won almost everything that needed to be won.

“This is my happiest day as a coach. I have won everything with this club and winning LaLiga is the best”, the Frenchman said.

Zidane had cause to prefer La Liga trophy more than any other. The Whites have not won it since 2011/2012, leaving Barcelona to dominate. Thus winning it and dethroning Barcelona became very special.

“We’ve achieved this by really working hard, over the course of 38 match days. The Spanish top flight is the toughest in the world. It is an important moment for me as a coach. The key of the success lies in the group. They have been united all season and that was the key for this LaLiga campaign. Everyone deserves praise, but above all the players deserve it. They believed in the message I told them,” he said.

“It is the players who are out there on the pitch, they play and suffer. There are 24 of them, it is difficult to give them all the same number of minutes, but they are key. The success is down to the work they put in and the belief in what they do. If you work hard, with this squad I was able to win LaLiga, and that is not an easy feat”.

Here are the other things Zidane said Sunday night:

Happiness

“I am really happy and pleased. I’m happy to win LaLiga. We have played 38 match days and come out on top. This is the happiest day of my professional life, it feels different. We won the last games against Sevilla, Celta and Málaga. We struggled throughout the LaLiga campaign, but these three games were key”.

Mission accomplished

“As the Real Madrid coach, you know what the expectation levels are like. I like it. Now we’re going back to Madrid and to Cibeles to see the fans, who have to see their team. I dedicate this title to all the madridistas and to those who have been behind the team. On a personal level, this is for my family and my brother, the eldest. Although he will not understand what I’m saying in Spanish”.

“I’ve suffered every three days, every game. There’s a lot of tension. We live for this and I’m passionate about what I do. After nine months we’ve won the league and after four years it’s hard to put it into words”.

Málaga

“They played their game. They’re a good team and they’ve won a lot of games of late. We knew it would be difficult but we scored right away and that made things easier for us”.

The Champions League final

“I’m not going to think about Cardiff yet, I’m just going to enjoy what we’ve achieved. When you start the season you know that LaLiga is your bread and butter. I could get up and dance right now but I’m not going to, but I’m really happy inside”.

NBA AWARDS 2017: Lebron James Didn’t Make Finalist MVP. Checkout Who Did Instead

The nominees for NBA’s MVP have been announced, and a certain “best player on the planet” is noticeably absent.

The list, which was unveiled on Friday ahead of Game 2 of the Cavs-Celtics series, included Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Kawhi Leonard, but snubbed James.

Westbrook is far and away considered the favorite for the award after averaging a triple-double for the season, powering the Thunder to a 47-win season and pulling down 42 triple-doubles during the season.
However, his team lost to Harden’s Rockets, who in turn lost to Leonard’s Spurs. Leonard, by the way, is listed as questionable for Game 3 against Golden State in the Western Conference finals.

James meanwhile is chugging along, scoring 38 points on 14-of-24 shooting in a Game 1 massacre against the Celtics in the East finals. He averaged 26.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.7 in the regular season.

Agent says Mike Ribeiro suffered alcohol relapse, NHL future undetermined

Mike Ribeiro’s agent Bob Perno told La Presse’s Richard Labbé ( via Puck Daddy) that the veteran forward suffered an alcohol relapse during the 2016-17 season, sometime before he was waived by the Nashville Predators in February.

Ribeiro, 37, had made a trade request around that time.

Perno’s interview with La Presse reveals that Ribeiro is uncertain about his future with hockey. There’s an implication that, if he were to play the sport next season, it would probably not be in the NHL (and maybe not even in North America).

For what it’s worth, Ribeiro did report to the Milwaukee Admirals (the Predators’ AHL affiliate) amid these issues. He played 28 games for the team, scoring 26 points.

Nashville made the controversial decision to hand Ribeiro a two-year, $7 million contract on July 1, 2015 , even as he was facing a civil suit for sexual assault; that lawsuit was settled about two weeks later.

That contract is set to expire this summer, and again, it seems plausible that Ribeiro’s NHL days are over. His agent’s comments indicate that he must deal with his alcohol issues before determining his hockey future.

Ribeiro has three children. Neither Ribeiro nor the Predators have made a statement regarding this report.

Manchester United v Chelsea Revealed: How Jose Mourinho beat Antonio Conte

How else to interpret Mourinho’s team selection other than a tacit admission from the Manchester United manager that Thursday’s Europa League second-leg tie with Anderlecht was of more importance than this league game and, therefore, required the resting of tired veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic?

Of course, what that analysis failed to take into account was a tactical masterstroke by Mourinho.

Having injected much-needed pace into the United forward line by pushing up Jesse Lingard to partner Marcus Rashford, Mourinho also mirrored Chelsea’s three-man back line, allowing the speedy Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young to take up advanced positions and add even more energy to his team’s recently moribund attacking play.

That also served to bolster United’s midfield and allowed Mourinho to unleash his tactical piece de resistance, with Ander Herrera performing a man-marking job on Eden Hazard that was so complete that the Chelsea playmaker must have expected his opponent would sit next to him in the visitors’ dressing room at half-time.

Mourinho finally got one over on Conte

The fact that Herrera scored the decisive second goal early in the second half merely underlined that this was, even more than the League Cup final win over Southampton, Mourinho’s finest hour as United manager to date.

Apart from the sheer football acumen Mourinho brought to bear on proceedings, his recent handling of his young forwards also proved significant.

The United manager has taken the unusual step of calling out Rashford, Lingard and Anthony Martial by name, pointing out their dreadful ratio of chances to goals and Frenchman Martial, poor again in the trip to Anderlecht on Thursday, did not even merit a place on the bench yesterday.

But if Mourinho’s desired effect was to provide the remaining two young local forwards with the proverbial kick up the rear, then his man management has been magnificent based on their respective displays against a Chelsea defence that has been virtually impregnable for large parts of this season.

Manchester United gave Chelsea a game for the ages at Old Trafford

Pacy and direct, Lingard and Rashford troubled Chelsea’s back three from the off and, even allowing for the loss and disruption caused by the injury of Marcos Alonso in the pre-game warm-up, there was no excuse for the terrified manner in which David Luiz and Gary Cahill failed to cope with their opponents.

Nor should Mourinho’s own considerable ego be underestimated. After losing his first two meetings with his former employers this season, this was simply not a game Mourinho was prepared to lose and it brought the very best out of him.

Chelsea may not agree but the Premier League – and the title race – is a better place this morning for that fact.

Explosions Hit Popular German Football Team Bus

Three explosions have hit a bus carrying the Borussia Dortmund football team to their home Champions League quarter-final match against Monaco.

In a news conference, the head of Dortmund police said it was a targeted attack on the team.

Player Marc Bartra underwent an operation after breaking a bone in his wrist. No other players were hurt.

The state prosecutor said a letter found near the scene was being examined as part of the investigation.

The match was postponed until 18:45 local time (16:45 GMT) on Wednesday.

Pictures from the scene showed the bus’s windows broken and tyres burst in the blasts.

Borussia Dortmund defender and Spain international Marc Bartra was injured

Dortmund police said that “three explosive charges had detonated” at Hoechsten outside the city at about 19:00 local time.

The first indications were that this was an “attack with serious explosives”, they said.

Fans at the 80,000-capacity Signal Iduna Park were told to stay there until it was safe to leave.

The stadium was later evacuated safely and police thanked the fans for their co-operation.

“As many officers as possible” would be deployed for tomorrow’s rescheduled game, they said.

Monaco fans were praised for their chants of support for Dortmund. Social media also carried offers from Dortmund residents to Monaco fans in need of a bed for the night on #bedforawayfans.

Borussia Dortmund said in a statement: “Shortly after the departure of the Borussia Dortmund team bus from the hotel to the stadium there was an incident. The bus has been damaged in two places.”

Dortmund’s CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said: “The whole team is in a state of shock, you can’t get pictures like that out of your head.

“I hope the team will be in a position to be able to compete tomorrow on the pitch. In a crisis situation like this, Borussia pulls together.”

The team tweeted in English to let fans know of a hashtag where they might find a bed for the unexpected extra night

One of the Dortmund players, Mathias Ginter, was involved in the Germany-France match that was targeted in the terror attacks in Paris on 13 November, 2015. Another present in Paris, Andre Schurrle, was injured for the Monaco match.

FC Barcelona, Bartra’s former club, tweeted: “All of our support to @MarcBartra, @BVB and their fans.”

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy also tweeted his support, wishing Bartra a quick recovery.

A journalist for German news publisher Bild Online tells the BBC of shock in the stadium

Fifa president Gianni Infantino said the football organising body condemned the incident and wished Bartra a “speedy recovery”.

Uefa president Aleksander Ceferin said he was “deeply disturbed by the explosions”.

“The decision taken to postpone the UEFA Champions League match between Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco was the correct one since we must always prioritise the safety and security of all fans, team officials and players,” he said.

“I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the representatives of the two clubs, the local authorities, and the supporters for their cooperation on the ground.”

Dortmund are currently fourth in the German Bundesliga table.

Top English Premier League Club Sacks Manager

English Premier League club Middlesbrough sack manager Aitor Karanka

The Spaniard leaves the club in the Premier League’s relegation zone with just over ten matches of the season left to be played.

Steve Agnew will step up from his role as assistant head coach to take control of the first team.

In a statement, Boro stated that the decision was made as a result of a mutual agreement.

“Both parties have agreed that it is in the best interests of the club to make this change,” the club stated.

Boro are second from bottom, three points from safety and without a league win in 10 attempts since mid-December.

They have failed to score in the past four of those matches and have managed only 19 goals in 27 league games this season.

Aitor Karanka

Karanka, who was assistant to Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid oversaw promotion last season.

He reportedly had a strained relationship with some players like Stewart Downing and Patrick Bamford who were left out of the squad for last weekend’s FA Cup defeat by Manchester City, with the manager saying he needed “18 fighters”.

Karanka’s criticism in January of the club’s supporters and the atmosphere at the Riverside proved divisive and some fans called for his departure at Stoke.

The Spaniard was appointed by Middlesbrough in November 2013, when the club were 16th in the Championship, five points clear of the relegation zone.
