UFC Champion, Conor Mcgregor Calls Floyd Mayweather ‘monkey,’ Floyd Looking For A Knockout

When UFC champion Conor McGregor and boxing legend Floyd Mayweather fight this month in Las Vegas, many experts predict it will shatter pay-per-view records.

However, the fight might be more personal than many fans thought thanks to comments by one of the fighters. Conor McGregor called Floyd Mayweather “monkey” in one of their confrontations leading up to the fight.

Floyd Mayweather Interview

This shocking revelation came in a Floyd Mayweather interview with Stephen A. Smith on ESPN. Smith explained that he didn’t hear the “monkey” comment by Conor McGregor, but he did hear Conor call Floyd a “boy.” The difference is that McGregor calls everyone he fights “boy,” regardless of race or skin color. However, “monkey” has long been used as a derogatory statement towards black individuals.

In the interview, Floyd Mayweather was very calm when talking about this racial insult. He simply said that he didn’t like it. Mayweather said that it didn’t make him “go crazy,” but he felt it disrespected those who came before like Martin Luther King and Malcolm X, who went on the front line for him and his family.

Mayweather then said that this sort of racism still goes on. MMAFighting reported that Floyd then said that he is going for a knockout in this fight and will not be fighting on the defensive.

Conor Mcgregor’s Response To The ‘monkey’ Statement

While it seemed very shocking for Conor McGregor to call Floyd Mayweather “monkey,” it wasn’t the first time he used the statement, and when asked about it, MMAFighting also reported that McGregor didn’t step back from the statement.

There was a YouTube video that reportedly showed a backstage interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live with Conor McGregor, where the UFC champion was asked about Rocky 3. McGregor responded by asking if that was the movie with “dancing monkeys in the gym.” In Rocky 3, the Sylvester Stallone character went to train at an all-black gym.

That video clip was removed from the Jimmy Kimmel YouTube page.

When asked about the Floyd Mayweather “monkey” comments, Conor said that he was just trying to make light of the situation. McGregor seems to think it was part of his schtick, which included him asking Floyd to dance for him. Conor said that he knows who he is as a person, and “realistic people” will know as well.

Racism In Boxing

In a follow-up response to the Floyd Mayweather “monkey” controversy, ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith once again said that he never heard the comments from Conor McGregor, but if it is true, he finds it highly offensive and a slap to all black people.

Smith then brought up the classic 1982 fight between Larry Holmes and Gerry Cooney, a boxing match that really separated the racial lines with promoter Don King and manager Dennis Rappaport using the “black vs. white” storyline to sell the fight. The media even referred to Cooney as the “Great White Hope.”

While both Smith and his First Take co-host, Max Kellerman, said that they believe that neither Holmes nor Cooney wanted the race card to be played, it made the fight a huge success despite many people making death threats to both boxers leading up to the fight.

Both George Cooney and Larry Holmes are close friends and have worked together for special causes ever since.

Stephen A. Smith said that the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather fight might cause a huge racial divide similar to that of Cooney vs. Holmes.

Neymar’s PSG Shirt Number Revealed

Neymar will take over the No. 10 shirt worn by Javier Pastore, when he signs for Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The 25-year-old wears the same number for Brazil and will be confident of living up to the successes of some of his predecessors.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic wore 10 during his spell in the French capital, while Ronaldinho and Jay-Jay Okocha came before him.

The Brazilian has agreed to a five-year contract with the Ligue 1 club.
According to Sky Sports, PSG will pay him £90million (€100million/$119 million) per season in salary in bonuses.

However, that amount will not enter his account due to France’s 75% tax on its highest earners.

Neymar’s will earn £26.7million (€29.8 million/$35 million) per season after taxes, plus other on-field bonuses and off-field marketing opportunities.

The deal will make him the most expensive transfer in soccer history and the highest-paid player ever.

Ryan Giggs Gives His Prediction on Chelsea’s Fate Next Season

Ryan Giggs says he doesn’t expect Chelsea to defend their Premier League title next season.

The Blues enjoyed a sparkling debut campaign under Antonio Conte last term as they lifted the Premier League title after having won a record 30 top-flight games.

However, Chelsea were able to win the title last term without the distraction of European football after they missed out on a place in the Champions League last season.

Chelsea are now preparing for their return to European football as they look to compete for honours on four fronts in Conte’s second season in charge at the club.

And former Manchester United star Giggs feels that Chelsea may not be as strong next season because of their inflated fixture list.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Giggs said:

“You can’t ignore Chelsea because of their quality, but have they got the squad to balance defending the Premier League and European football? I’m not sure.”

Manchester United are also preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Red Devils won the Europa League last term under Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea missed out on the chance to win a domestic double last term when they were beaten by Arsenal in the FA Cup final back in May.

However, Conte’s men will have the chance to gain revenge on the Gunners when they take on the north London side in the Community Shield on Sunday.

Checkout Real Madrid Manager, Zidane’s Remark Following La Liga Victory

Zinedine Zidane stunned journalists in Malaga when he declared  winning LaLiga is more important than winning the UEFA Champions League. As the coach of Madrid, since he replaced Rafa Benitez, he had won almost everything that needed to be won.

“This is my happiest day as a coach. I have won everything with this club and winning LaLiga is the best”, the Frenchman said.

Zidane had cause to prefer La Liga trophy more than any other. The Whites have not won it since 2011/2012, leaving Barcelona to dominate. Thus winning it and dethroning Barcelona became very special.

“We’ve achieved this by really working hard, over the course of 38 match days. The Spanish top flight is the toughest in the world. It is an important moment for me as a coach. The key of the success lies in the group. They have been united all season and that was the key for this LaLiga campaign. Everyone deserves praise, but above all the players deserve it. They believed in the message I told them,” he said.

“It is the players who are out there on the pitch, they play and suffer. There are 24 of them, it is difficult to give them all the same number of minutes, but they are key. The success is down to the work they put in and the belief in what they do. If you work hard, with this squad I was able to win LaLiga, and that is not an easy feat”.

Here are the other things Zidane said Sunday night:

Happiness

“I am really happy and pleased. I’m happy to win LaLiga. We have played 38 match days and come out on top. This is the happiest day of my professional life, it feels different. We won the last games against Sevilla, Celta and Málaga. We struggled throughout the LaLiga campaign, but these three games were key”.

Mission accomplished

“As the Real Madrid coach, you know what the expectation levels are like. I like it. Now we’re going back to Madrid and to Cibeles to see the fans, who have to see their team. I dedicate this title to all the madridistas and to those who have been behind the team. On a personal level, this is for my family and my brother, the eldest. Although he will not understand what I’m saying in Spanish”.

“I’ve suffered every three days, every game. There’s a lot of tension. We live for this and I’m passionate about what I do. After nine months we’ve won the league and after four years it’s hard to put it into words”.

Málaga

“They played their game. They’re a good team and they’ve won a lot of games of late. We knew it would be difficult but we scored right away and that made things easier for us”.

The Champions League final

“I’m not going to think about Cardiff yet, I’m just going to enjoy what we’ve achieved. When you start the season you know that LaLiga is your bread and butter. I could get up and dance right now but I’m not going to, but I’m really happy inside”.

NBA AWARDS 2017: Lebron James Didn’t Make Finalist MVP. Checkout Who Did Instead

The nominees for NBA’s MVP have been announced, and a certain “best player on the planet” is noticeably absent.

The list, which was unveiled on Friday ahead of Game 2 of the Cavs-Celtics series, included Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Kawhi Leonard, but snubbed James.

Westbrook is far and away considered the favorite for the award after averaging a triple-double for the season, powering the Thunder to a 47-win season and pulling down 42 triple-doubles during the season.
However, his team lost to Harden’s Rockets, who in turn lost to Leonard’s Spurs. Leonard, by the way, is listed as questionable for Game 3 against Golden State in the Western Conference finals.

James meanwhile is chugging along, scoring 38 points on 14-of-24 shooting in a Game 1 massacre against the Celtics in the East finals. He averaged 26.4 points, 8.6 rebounds and 8.7 in the regular season.
