The remainder of the round three games of the English League Cup were played on Wednesday night, September 21, with Manchester United and Manchester City advancing.
A rejigged Manchester United came into their game against Northampton Town having lost three consecutive matches, and there were nerves when a Micheal Carrick opener was cancelled out by Alexander Revell’s penalty just three minutes to half-time.
United came out in the second half with all the intensity and that finally paid off when Ander Herrera put United in front with Marcus Rashford adding a third with just 12 minutes to go.
